Suggested Minimum Workstation Requirements

CollectMax™ requires a PC with a Pentium III (or equivalent AMD) 1.6 gigahertz (GHZ) processor or higher, 512 MB RAM or higher, with a minimum 200 MB of free hard disk space. A CD-Rom Drive is required on each PC for installation of the software. The program also requires a SVGA or higher resolution monitor with at least a 800×600 pixel display, and a mouse.

Supported Windows Operating Systems

Microsoft Windows 2000 (with Service Pack 2 installed), Windows NT (with Service Pack 6 installed), Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack2), Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Ultimate.

Please note, when using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 as the workstation operating system, unrestricted user login codes are required.

CollectMax™ has been tested successfully on the Windows 7 Release Candidate environment.

Non-Supported Windows Operating Systems

Windows ME, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium are designed for home use and are not supported.

Networking Options

CollectMax™ can be used in a network environment via a peer-to-peer arrangement or using a dedicated file server. A dedicated file server is preferred for stability and performance reasons. Only Windows networking options are supported. Novell Netware is no longer supported for new CollectMax™ installations.

Wide Area Network (WAN) configurations and Windows Terminal Services configurations are not supported. Citrix XPA or XPE is recommended for those customers requiring an application server environment.

Connections from workstations to servers must support TCP/IP protocol that can be validated from each workstation using a “PING [ServerName]” command.

For network installations, a third party software license called Advantage Database Server (ADS) is installed on your server in order to run CollectMax™ across your network. ADS is provided by JST along with the CollectMax™ installation CD.

It is required that all customers run the most current release of ADS in order to receive CMWin program updates, enhancements, or additional modules. JST will send an upgrade notification when and if the ADS license needs to be upgraded. JST will not be able to update any installations that are not running ADS version 8.x.

Peer-to-Peer Arrangements

Peer-to-peer licenses are limited to a maximum of 5 workstations. Requirements for the computer that is housing the CollectMax™ data are the same as what is required for the workstation with the exception of the RAM. The Peer-to-Peer server must have an approved version of the Windows Operating System and at least 1 gig of RAM. Additional hard drive space may be required depending on the data size.

Dedicated File Server Arrangements

Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and Windows 2008 are supported as dedicated server network solutions. Dedicated File Servers must have at least 1 GB RAM. These requirements depend on the workstation machines, number of workstations, and amount of data traffic. It is recommended that the server have at least as much RAM, preferably double the amount of RAM, and be as fast as the CPU on the fastest workstation machine. Systems supporting 10 or more workstations should have minimum of 4 GB RAM.

For systems supporting 25 or more workstations, JST strongly recommends the use of a file server that is exclusive to the CollectMax™ program and associated database software.

Existing customers should contact JST when planning a server change or upgrade to ensure that the ADS version and configuration are correct.

Remote Support Requirement

In order for us to provide you with timely technical support, a communications program called LogMeIn Rescue is used by our support staff as a means of connectivity. Customers are required to have high speed internet access in order for our technicians to access their PC remotely. Dialup connections are not supported. LogmeIn Rescue provides end-to-end256-bit SSL encryption for compliance with HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and other federal and local legislation.

This service allows our technicians to connect to any client workstation and/or server in your office at no cost to your firm in a matter of seconds. No pre-installation of software is needed. Internet access is required for connection as the end user will need to enter a PIN number given to them by the technician at the logmein123.com website. The end user will also be required accept the connection.

As an alternative to pcAnywhere, you may use pcAnywhere for Windows (version 10.5 or higher),  or an Internet based services called GoToMyPC or LogMeIn Pro.  JST must be able to perform a data file transfer using Customer’s communications software. Please be certain that the selected product option provides that capability.

In the event of a support problem relating to a particular workstation, there may be an occasion where it is necessary to connect directly to that computer in order to offer a solution.

Other methods of remote connection are not supported.

Word Processing

Microsoft Word 2000-2010, or Corel WordPerfect 9.0-X3 are required to be installed on each PC. Corel WordPerfect X4 is not compatible with CollectMax. If Corel releases a new Service Pack (last service date was 09/08), JST will test X4 again to determine if CollectMax can interface with this version.

Some installations may experience compatibility issues between WordPerfect and some versions of Windows. If so, Microsoft Word may be the recommended word processor. Either Word or WordPerfect must be selected as the default word processor for all systems using CollectMax™. All workstations must use the same version of the selected word processor.

User Defined Reports

Versions 2.0 and above of CollectMax™ include a module called Simple Data Extraction as a solution for creating easy to use user defined reports. Reports created using this feature will require a program such as Microsoft Excel in order to open the reports once they have been generated.

CollectMax™ Features that Require MS-Excel

CollectMax™ contains both standard and optional features that require the use of Microsoft Excel. For example, many reports offer the option to output the report to an XLS file format. In order to use such features, it is required that the user have Microsoft Excel 2000 or higher installed on their workstation.

Credit Bureau Reports

The CM550 and CM560 editions of CollectMax™ have been designed to interface with a software program named Smart.Alx iPortal. By using this program in conjunction with CollectMax™, you can electronically request credit reports. Current credit bureau membership and an Internet connection are required to access the bureaus. TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax are supported. To order SmartAlx iPortal, contact Ique, Inc., at (800) 257-6963 or www.smartalx.com.

Daily Backup Procedure

A daily backup procedure to a removable storage media is highly recommended for all users, especially for network systems. At a minimum, a full backup of the CollectMax™ folder, as well as the Images folder (for Customers with the Document Imaging Module) should be part of a Daily Backup Program. CollectMax™ includes a ‘Snapshot’ utility which creates and maintains a compressed copy of only the data files but is not a replacement for the daily backup process. Snapshots have a 4 gigabyte limit.

Uninterruptible Power Supply

An uninterruptible (battery back-up) power supply (UPS) is required on the server unit for network based systems. Due to the high risk of data loss and file damage, CollectMax™ programs running on a network without a UPS on the server cannot be supported.

Harmful Programs/Spyware Warning

Precautions should be taken to avoid downloading via the Internet Spyware type programs. Spyware programs are a serious concern because they gather personal data and other information to be transmitted back to an external company. Spyware programs have also been associated with serious computer stability problems including crashing database applications such as CollectMax™ and entire systems.

Unfortunately, Spyware programs can be accidentally installed when downloading other seemingly harmless programs or clicking on the wrong button on a website. There are utilities available to identify and remove these programs from your system. Your hardware technician can advise you of such utilities.
